GIG-LOG-RAPHY Roots
Lets go back to 1991 (the absolute best years)… I was a college student in my home city, Nottingham… home of the iconic Rock City! It’s there where my love of gigs began! Regrettably turning down the chance to see a band that were beginning to get noticed – Nirvana! And kicking myself in hindsight years later. I spent many hours and most of my money buying vinyl’s from Way Ahead records.. The Cure, The Cult, Sisters of Mercy, The Mission, The Neph – a collection that I still have today!
1991 was the year I went to my first decent gig (we’ll quietly ignore the Bros concert in 1988! 🤫😳) – it was Extreme… the band that is. The years that followed involved many gigs and Monsters of Rock (Now Download) Festivals, which usually involved many alcoholic beverages and as a result many forgotten moments!
Fast forward to 2026, and my teen Daughter has inherited the same love of gigs and already has some great bands on her list! Now, I’ve tried to recall my gig history – for bragging purposes – and have them listed on a notepad, but the dates are sketchy and I know I have forgotten some… wouldn’t it be great, if you could record them all inside a buildable archive? [Cue] GIG-LOG-RAPHY! Eighteen year old me is screaming! I really wish I could have had GIG-LOG-RAPHY to document my entire gig history, in detail – especially those old-skool paper coloured tickets from Rock City! Well now it exists, for my Daughter, and all who join me on this journey as I try to build GIG-LOG-RAPHY into an essential archiving tool for gig-goers old and new.
I have some amazing plans for this little venture, that who knows, one day may become an iconic collection to pass down to awestruck teenagers of the future! 🤘 I’m inviting you to join me from the beginning.
